Maverick Rowan scored a layup off an inbounds pass as time expired to help North Carolina State beat Boston College 73-72 on Wednesday night in its home finale.

Rowan’s score off a pass underneath the basket from Caleb Martin capped a tense finish for the Wolfpack (15-15, 5-12 Atlantic Coast Conference), who trailed just about the entire second half before surviving on the final play to avoid what would’ve been an ugly loss to a team that hadn’t won an ACC game all year.

Anthony “Cat” Barber scored 24 points to lead N.C. State, while Rowan scored 13 with a critical late-game 3-pointer.

Dennis Clifford scored 18 points to lead the Eagles (7-23, 0-17), who were on the verge of earning their first win since December only to see it snatched away in brutally painful fashion.
