Fred Span taken to hospital, then released

The Wolfpack football team had a scare yesterday when Sophomore Fred Span had to be escorted from the practice field because of queasiness from the heat. He is expected to return to practice today.

Bill Cole from the Winston-Salem Journal: "Sophomore receiver Fred Span experienced problems after the upperclassmen began the nearly three-hour practice with a series of 110-yard conditioning runs in mid-afternoon. Two emergency vehicles were summoned to the practice field and Span was taken to nearby Rex Hospital where he was treated, observed and released."
