RELEASE: NC State Adds Future Football Series

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State has bolstered its future football schedules, announcing match-ups with Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and Connecticut.

NC State has bolstered its future football schedules, announcing match-ups with Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and Connecticut.

The Wolfpack will open two of the three series in Raleigh, as both Texas Tech and UConn will come to Carter-Finley Stadium in 2022. NC State will travel to UConn in 2023, and return to Texas Tech in 2027.

Additionally, the Wolfpack has added a series with Vanderbilt of the SEC with a game in Nashville in 2026, and a return to Raleigh in 2028.

NC State has won four straight meetings against Texas Tech, taking home-and-home series in both 1992 and 1993, and most recently in 2002 and 2003.

The Wolfpack and Commodores have met two times previously with Vanderbilt winning both, most recently in the 2012 Music City Bowl in Nashville.

NC State has won both previous meetings against UConn, with the Wolfpack winning in Raleigh in 2003 and most recently in Storrs in 2012.

The Wolfpack has also added a game with VMI at Carter-Finley for 2023.

The future games added by NC State continue a commitment to a nonconference scheduling philosophy of one to two Power 5 (Big Ten, Big 12, or SEC) opponents, one to two FBS opponents, and one FCS opponent annually.

The key ingredients of the process remain A) existing conference rotations and requirements, B) opportunities for player development and competitive success, and C) seizing special occasions for marquee or regional match-ups when available.

In 2014 the ACC reached agreement to remain with an eight-game league schedule, while requiring all members to schedule one nonconference opponent from a Power 5 conference beginning in 2017.

NC State fulfills the Power 5 mandate a year early with Notre Dame set to visit Carter-Finley on Oct. 8 this season. The Wolfpack will return to South Bend in 2017 in addition to its opener against South Carolina.

The earlier additions of South Carolina (2017) in Charlotte, series with West Virginia (2018 and 2019) and Mississippi State (2020 and 2021), as well as additional match-ups with Notre Dame in 2023 and 2025, have helped secure premier nonconference schedules for the extended future.
