Wake Forest High School has become one of the top division one prospect producing programs in the state and that’s a trend that will continue in 2016.
On the heels of 5-star DT Dexter Lawrence in 2015 comes defensive lineman Xach Gill and linebacker Darius Hodge for the class of 2017. Gill has earned double digit offers and is a major target for NC State while his teammate Hodge has quietly landed nearly a half dozen offers with the Pack included in that list.
At the recent Nike Camp held in Charlotte, Hodge was one of the more physically impressive prospects on hand. At 6-1, 255 pounds, he has great size and more than held his own in drills. On the recruiting front Hodge is up to five offers.
“I got an offer from Appalachian State last Friday but everything else is pretty much the same. I’m up to five offers now. I have NC State, UNC, Virginia, Pittsburgh and Appalachian State.”
NC State, in particular, offers a close-to-home option and it’s a team Hodge has become familiar with.
“I like the way they run things,” Hodge said of NC State. “I like the defense because they play hard and aggressive. I like how it’s close to home and I’d be close to my family. I think it’s a really good choice.
“Coach Kitchings is recruiting me and he’s a really good coach and he doesn’t just worry about football. He talks to you about your future and me and my family really like him. I’m planning to go back over to State sometime in June.”
Hodge said he does not have any favorites currently and has not yet established a timeframe for a decision. He said he does plan to attend several camps over the summer in the hopes of landing more offers.
As for which team seems to be recruiting him the hardest right now?
“I would say NC State is showing me the most love right now.”
