Five-star center Nick Richards is one of the most sought-after big men in the Class of 2017 and N.C. State is trying to stay involved.
The 6'10" center is playing in the Nike EYBL with Expressions Elite this spring as coaches from around the country are tracking him. Richards said that Indiana, Kentucky, St. John's, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Texas, UCLA and UConn have all been on him the most while N.C. State is still also in the picture.
"Yeah, N.C. State has been involved. They offered me last year after the EYBL. That's a good place to go to school," Richards said.
Kentucky, Syracuse and UConn have been by to watch Richards work out at The Patrick School and he's also been recently offered by Rutgers. For Richards, the recruiting process is in the early stages, as he hasn't set any visits or laid out any future recruiting plans.
For now, the focus is on basketball and figuring out the recruiting process down the road.
"I'm just working on my game and I'm trying to get better," Richards said. "[My strength] is blocking shots."
The center is currently regarded as the No. 20 overall prospect in Scout.com's national Class of 2017 rankings as he's averaged 11.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game in seven EYBL games this spring. Richards is also shooting 58 percent from the field.
