Here is video of Sidney Lowe, Dereck Whittenburg, and Thurl Bailey discussing their tour of the White House and meeting President Barack Obama.
It was a privilege and great honor to be invited here. Although it took a little while, we were very gracious.
We played for Morgan Wooten at DeMatha High School and he arranged an opportunity for Sidney and I to come and meet Ronald Reagan at the time.
It was something you anticipated.
Let's not forget our late Jim Valvano, who was our leader and one of the reasons we're here and won that championship.
We wanted the 1983 team, all of us at NC State, and the Jimmy V Foundation to help... the fight of cancer.
We really appreciate this opportunity to come here and meet the President and Vice President. For a young man who grew up in the Washington DC area, it was certainly something that I thought would never happen.
I'm just grateful for the opportunity.
We did a tour, they took us to the East Wing and we went to the West... we had an opportunity to go through all the rooms and see a lot of history.
We came down and waited for the President and Vice President..
We talked basketball for a little while, and then we took pictures. What was really nice, after they took pictures with us, the President went over and took a picture with the wives. The whole family got to enjoy it... everything was wonderful.
These two guys here put it together... just like the game, it goes on forever, and this is part of it.
We were seniors on that squad and I feel like it's appropriate that we're up here leading the way for our team now.
We talked about one day having the opportunity of getting to the White House and meeting the President. That day has come and all it took was a little perseverance.
It was a surreal moment for us to share this moment with our wives and kids. We thank the President for having us here and appreciate the opportunity.
It says a lot for what we've achieved with this team.
I think we appreciate it more, I know I do. When you're a college kid you know it's a big deal, but now you get a chance to experience it at a different phase in your life.
He talked about that moment where coach V was running around after Lorenzo Charles dunks it and there's so many people familiar with that story. You could tell he was up on it... he was up on his sports and in 1983 what we accomplished.
