NC State honed in on Wakefield QB Matt McKay as their top signal-caller for the class of 2017 and were able to land a commitment from the rising senior over offers from Pittsburgh, West Virginia and others. McKay has been committed to the Pack for nearly three months now and has transitioned into the role of recruiter for the Wolfpack. Pack Pride caught up with McKay at the Nike Camp held in Charlotte where he talked about his new role.
"I'm definitely out here recruiting myself to some of the top recruits in the nation and just competing as always.
"I've definitely been talking to some different players. I've been talking to a lot of the recruits in our area that State has been heavily recruiting like Matthew Butler, Xach Gill, OrTre Smith- so yeah, I've definitely been recruiting. That's been the job for me."
McKay said their was one player in particular that he felt the Pack had an outstanding shot of landing.
"I feel like Matthew Butler, we have a pretty good shot with him to get him here so I'm excited to see what happens."
Besides recruiting, McKay has been busy during the off season preparing for his senior year and simply improving for the next level.
"I've definitely been working on just the mental side of playing quarterback. I've been trying to get bigger and just leading as always."
Georgia recently checked in with McKay and expressed interest but the three-star quarterback said he's solid to NC State with much of that being built on his relationship with Wolfpack offensive coordinator Eliah Drinkwitz.
"My relationship with coach Drinkwitz is great. The first time we met it was like we had known each other for years so we have a very strong bond. He's a very cool guy, good guy, very spiritual.
"I'm 100% committed to State."
