Estopinan Ready to Make an Impact

South Miami (FL) Linebacker Javier Estopinan gears up for his senior season after impressing college coaches this summer.

"I'm ready and think that it's going to be a good year for me," Estopinan told StateFans. "Like Coach Mira said I'm not sure how we'll do as a team, but we are going to play hard every play and do our best to win each game."

Last year Javier was named All-Dade county after compiling 125 tackles and 2 interceptions from his middle linebacker position. Those types of numbers and a 6-foot-3 235 pound frame have college coaches drooling according to his Head Coach, Richard Mira.

"We've had around fifty colleges coaches come through here to check him out," Coach Mira said. "Of those fifty, one-fifth have sent him written offers at home. Florida, Florida State, N.C. State, and Ohio State are some of the schools that have offered him."

"Javy" was able to attend a few camps this summer, as he made trips to Raleigh, North Carolina and Columbus, Ohio.

"I liked both camps at NC State and Ohio State. The only difference really was that Ohio State seemed to be more of a "city" atmosphere like Miami, but I don't think that's a problem because with Coach Amato and those guys at NC State they are making the area more of a football city and in two or three years it could be just like Miami."

Estopinan, who is already fully qualified and wants to be an Electrical Engineering major in college, doesn't have a timeframe for deciding, but knows that he will take some visits before doing so.

"I would like to make a decision sometime in December or early January. I'll take some visits and should be ready to decide by then. Some schools are recruiting me as a defensive end, but that doesn't really matter to me as long as I get to play."

Javy's well aware of how much the Wolfpack likes him and the interest is definitely mutual.

"I like NC State alot. Coach Amato and the coaches at NC State are great and they are really turning the program into a powerhouse. I also like Coach Diaz and how they use their linebackers. It's a good school and they are really interested in me."

Author's Note: Outside of an offer from the University of Miami, I think the Wolfpack have a legitimate shot of landing Estopinan, who looks to be one of their top targets for the recruiting season. His wrestling background and strong build makes him a likely candidate to end up on the Defensive Line at the next level.
