Allen Talks Wolfpack Offer

Garner (NC) standout guard Thomas Allen discusses his recent visit to NC State and offer from the Wolfpack.

Garner (NC) standout guard Thomas Allen and his family made the short drive over to NC State for an unofficial visit on Friday.  He was able to check out the facilities and spend a lot of time with Wolfpack head coach Mark Gottfried.

"I went on a visit around 12, and they showed me around the facilities," said Allen. "We talked for a couple of hours about State and how he runs things.

"Coach Gottfried was talking about how the ACC was the best league in the country and how the 2017 was a big recruiting class for him.  He was telling me how I fit.  He likes shooters, and he said he likes me because I can shoot and put the ball in the hole."

Allen headed into the visit without an offer from NC State, but that quickly changed.

"I was kind of surprised because we hadn't talked about an offer," he said, laughing.  "We went to his office, and coach Gottfried offered me as soon as I sat down.  He then talked about the program after that.

"Me and my family... we were kind of surprised.  I had been over to State a few times already for visits."

Allen, a 6-foot-2 combo guard, is one of the top scorers on the adidas Gauntlet circuit. He's averaging 21.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 51% from the field and 41% from 3-point range.  Because he can create for himself and others, Allen believes his game is appealing to most college programs.

"Most seem to want a two point guard lineup," he stated.  "I know coach Gottfried said he wanted to play two point guards but couldn't do it last year because of some of the injuries."

Allen now has 16 offers with the most recent coming from NC State, Nebraskas, Texas A&M, ODU, and Cincinnati. Where does his recruitment stand right now?

"I'm still open, but the State offer definitely did move them up," he stated.  "I'm going to see who offers me first, and I have a visit set up in August to Saint Louis and Texas A&M in September.

"I'm not sure if I will decide in the fall... I don't even know.  I may wait until the spring, but I know in August I want to cut my list."

Allen, who is currently rated a three-star recruit by and will play his senior season at Brewster (NH) Academy, will be attending the NBPA Top 100 Camp this week before finishing up the AAU season with Garner Road.
