Plant City (FL) Durant defensive end Xavier Lyas has been a Wolfpack lean since landing an offer from NC State roughly six weeks ago. Lyas had hinted that a commitment could be forthcoming once he made a visit to Raleigh and that came to fruition this evening.
“Yes sir, I committed to NC State,” said Lyas. “The overall atmosphere there really sold me on State. I really like the coaching staff and I feel like they can help me develop as a player. Today was my first time seeing State and it was really nice. It was all state of the art type stuff and I really liked it.”
Lyas had a chance to work out for Wolfpack defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen during camp earlier today and he came away impressed with his future coach.
“Coach Nielsen is a really good coach. He’s one of those firm talking coaches and that was the main thing I got from him but he’s a good coach.”
Lyas was originally scheduled to camp at UNC on Friday but has canceled those plans and will be back at NC State to work out again on Friday.
In addition to NC State, Lyas (6-5, 200 pounds) held offers from Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, Florida International and South Florida among others.
Lyas becomes NC State’s eighth commitment for the class of 2017 and the second from Florida.
