NC State’s Alpha Wolf Showcase has steadily grown each year and has now become a huge part of the Wolfpack’s recruiting strategy.
Last week’s event resulted in three commitments including dynamic play maker Antoine Thompson from Plant City (FL).
The 6-1, 175 pound receiver tallied nearly 700 yards receiving on 30 catches as a junior while totaling five touchdowns on the season. That helped Thompson to land better than 20 offers including pledges from Wisconsin, Arizona. Central Florida, Pittsburgh, Illinois and Syracuse among others.
Thompson made a trip to NC State in June as part of a bus tour of Florida athletes. That visit helped paved the way for the rising senior’s commitment last Friday.
Thompson talked with Pack Pride about what stood out at NC State.
“I came to visit NC State with Nick Smith back in June with the bus tour. I just love the atmosphere at NC State. I love the area. I had a chance visit the school Friday morning and spend time with coach Doeren and coach McDonald and I’m just loving the whole staff. I really love this place.
“Actually, it’s not that far from home but it’s away from home where I can study and grind and do what I love to do which is play football. They play in the ACC and who wouldn’t want to play power five football.”
Wolfpack recruiting coordinator Des Kitchings has been on a tear of late on the recruiting trail and his work with Thompson played a part in the wideout’s decision.
“I’ve actually been building a relationship with coach Kitchings since I came down here on the bus tour. I’ve talked to him and had a chance to get to know him even more which has made it even better.”
In addition to NC State, Thompson also considered South Florida, Central Florida, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Arizona and Illinois.
