NC State junior tight end Jaylen Samuels has been named preseason first-team All-American by Pro Football Focus.

"We had to put a position title on Samuels and he lines up at tight end enough to warrant the distinction," wrote Pro Football Focus.  "He’ll line up from tight end to slot receiver to running back to fullback, creating mismatches for the defense along the way.

"He caught 65 passes for 597 yards and seven touchdowns, posting the No. 2 receiving grade among returning tight ends, but he also tacked on 368 yards on 56 carries and nine scores on the ground. Samuels will get the ball a variety of ways and he’s one of the nation’s most versatile players."

Samuels is coming off a sophomore season where he led all tight ends nationally with 65 receptions and 16 touchdowns.  A unique talent, he finished third in the ACC in total touchdowns (16), fourth in receiving touchdowns (7), fifth in receptions (65), and ninth in rushing touchdowns (9).

A first-team All-ACC selection in 2015, he was not selected preseason All-ACC heading into the 2016 season.
