Watson Enjoys NC State Visit

Pack Pride checks in with Bishop O'Connell (VA) center Nate Watson after his official visit to NC State.

Bishop O'Connell (VA) center Nate Watson took his first official visit this week, as he was in Raleigh to check out the NC State.  He left impressed with the Wolfpack.

“It went really well," Watson said of the visit.  "I liked everything about the campus and the facilities. I hung out with Malik [Abu], Dennis Smith, and Torin [Dorn] a lot while I was there. They were all cool. We were having conversations about the school and all of that."

What was the highlight of the visit for Watson?

“I really liked coach Mark [Gottfried] showing me the offense on video," he stated. "I like what they do on offense.  They really like to utilize their big men a lot... get them touches.

"When we were watching it he told me that they think I'd be a great fit for the program. He said I bring it on both ends of the court and can be a scorer for them.”

Assistant coach Butch Pierre is heading up Watson's recruitment for the Wolfpack. Pierre, regarded as one of the top recruiters in the country, has left an impression on Watson.

"Coach Butch calls me when he can, and he'll talk to me and my parents," said Watson.  "We talk about a lot of different things.  Honestly, now he's not even really recruiting me.  We're just talking about different things.... getting to know each other and having good conversations."

NC State is one of the schools to really come on strong with Watson.  The Wolfpack offered back in the spring, but their interest throughout the summer has put them in his final group.

"I would say they've been on my strong for a while," he said.  "The coaches are calling me when they can, and they came to all of my games this summer.  That stood out to me too, and them believing that I could play a lot as a freshman.  They say I have to earn it, but I could maybe play a lot because they think I'm that good."

Watson recently cut his list to NC State, Maryland, Miami, and Providence with the Wolfpack getting the first trip.  He now has his visits lined up for the remaining three schools.

“I have Providence on September 9th, Maryland on September 30th, and then I go to Miami October 7th.  After that I'll be ready to make my decision and sign in the fall.

“I don't even really know what I'll be looking for.  Whatever place I feel the most comfortable at, that's where I'll pick. I really like all the schools. I feel comfortable with NC State but that's the only school I've taken an official visit to so far."

Watson is rated a four-star recruit and the No. 63 player in the country by
