Cook: "Everybody Is Ready"

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State junior tight end Cole Cook met with the media on Friday to discuss the upcoming season opener.

On being named a captain...
It's probably one of the most prestigious things I can ever receive because it's voted on by my teammates.  I take it very serious, and it's a very humbling experience to know they look at me as a leader and an important person on the team.

How does that change your attitude?
It really doesn't change anything because I've been trying to develop myself as a leader over the last two years.  My role on this team is to definititely lead my posotion grou, help lead the offense, and lead the team.  I need to be a guy that they can look up to, work hard, and be a guy who can make plays.

Thoughts on the offense...
Everybody is ready.  We're ready to get going.  Honestly we're tired of hitting each other and we're ready to go against somebody else.

We'r ready to go.

How is the offense different with Ryan or Jalan?
We've had a lot of work with both of them.  We're confident with either one of them going in there and playing for us.

We just want to win. Whoever they put in there, that's who we'll play with.

Have you been in a situation with two quarterbacks before?
I have a good relationship with both of them, but we're here to win.  Whichever one they put out there, that's what we'll try to do with.

How grueling was camp?
Camp is camp, it's going to have its challenges.  It's something you have to get used to. The heat is going to be there every year.  You have to hydrate and take care of your body.

If you can play in that heat, the game should be easier than the practice.

Thoughts on Thursday night's game...
When I heard we were playing on Thursday night I was happy because it means we're playing before everyone else.

What types of things do you do as a leader?
Being a good leader by example first.  Doing things right on and off the field.

Your teammates see through all the stuff.  How you put yourself out to the coaches and media, your teammates will see through all of that.  They'll see the true you.  If you're doing things right, they'll see it and respect you for it.

I'll do my job on the field and be consistent as somebody they can look to.  I'll block for them, catch the ball, or do whatever I need to do to help us win.

What do you think the Wolfpack offense will be really good at?
I'm not really sure honestly because we've been doing a lot of different things in camp and this week.  We're getting good at a lot of different things.

I think we're a team that can make big plays and be explosive. We have some playmakers all over the offense. We'll play to our strengths and get those guys the ball... do what we do.

There aren't many seniors on this team...
The seniors thing, honestly it doesn't really matter as long as you have guys with experience and are leaders. You don't have to be a senior to lead... you can be a freshman and lead, a sophomore or junior and lead.  I think this team has some great leadership from a lot of guys from a lot of different spots.

That's something that has been better from what we've had in the past.

Thoughts on the offense...
We're confident we can play at a high level... we'll go out there and do what we need to do and execute the plan they give us. We're trying to win games. Whatever we need to do to win games, that's what we'll do.
