NC State junior defensive end Bradley Chubb discusses the upcoming season opener with the media.

On being a team captain...
It's an honor to be named a team captain with all the guys capable of winning. We have guys on defense like Airius Moore and guys who are very good leaders like B.J. Hill.  For my teammates to say that I'm a captain means a lot to me.

I've tried to transform myself into a leader the last couple of years, and now that I have this platform to be a leader it means a lot more.

Has it sunk in that you'll be wearing No. 9?
Yes, it has.

I actually just looked at my jersey about 15 minutes ago, and I saw the patch and the 'C' for the captain. It's awesome.  It's surreal. It means so much, and it's an honor to be able to wear the jersey.

I can't wait to get back out there with my teammates on Thursday. I'm looking forward to a great season.

What was the biggest improvement of the defense in camp?
Eliminating big plays has been a focus since the spring and was a major focus all summer.

I think guys are more mentally tough. We had some mess-ups last year and guys got down on themselves. We realize we can't do that now. We all have a lot more experience and are a lot older.

We have to stay together and fix it.
