Pack Making Junior Running Back A Priority

NC State has made Tampa (FL) tailback Andrew Cunningham a priority for the class of 2018. Where does the Pack stand?

NC State is in the same boat as a lot of other schools when it comes to recruiting and Tampa (FL) Cambridge Christian running back Andrew Cunningham.

That means Cunningham (6-0, 192) has been talking to the NC State coaches for a long time but he has not had a chance to visit. The visits will start happening at a later date but right now Cunningham's focus is on his junior year.

A lot of coaches started to come around and pick up Cunningham's recruiting after he had a good sophomore year for Cambridge Christian and his popularity has continued into his junior season.

"I have an offer from NC State and I hear from Coach Kitchings. I hear from the recruiting coordinator and the running back coach. They offered me my sophomore year during the springtime. I hear about them a lot. Coach Kitchings came down I think like three or maybe two weeks ago so he came to see me and I know they want me. I'll probably take a visit up there to North Carolina State around like the end of my junior season or my junior year. I'll probably take a visit up there to see how it is."

There isn't anything unique about Cunningham's relationship with Kitchings and NC State does not seem to be well ahead of the other schools that are recruiting him but his desire to visit has to be taken as a good sign.

"I haven't really gotten to know Coach Kitchings too well yet but I feel like he's the kind of guy I can get to know more. With everything going on it's just hard to keep up with all of the coaches out there. I try to do whatever I can. I stay in touch when I can. He messages me probably every day telling me what NC State is like and stuff like that."

Cunningham did have time to make his way to USF for their game against Florida State. He was impressed with the start of the game when the team's traded touchdowns but said the Bulls "kind of gave up" after "FSU kept on pounding on them."

That did not hurt Cunningham's opinion of South Florida. He said USF is recruiting him as hard or harder than any other school.

"Some of the others that I hear from a lot would be Indiana, Rutgers, Maryland, Louisville, Kentucky, Cincinnati somewhat, Kansas and of course USF."

Cambridge Christian is a perfect 8-0 and Cunningham has 1,164 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground. He has showed himself to be a nice receiver out of the backfield with 166 yards and three more scores as a receiver.
