Legacy Charter (SC) wing Nicolas Claxton was on NC State's campus over the weekend for his final official visit. He left impressed with the Wolfpack.
"It went well," Claxton said of the trip. "I had a good time, and I really enjoyed it. The Primetime With The Pack was great... that and seeing PNC Arena.
"They had Charles O'Bannon there too... he was real cool. We were both on our official visits."
One of the highlights of the visit for Claxton was interacting with the players and watching the team practice. He added that he had a chance to really assess the Wolfpack's style of play.
"They open up the court and let their skill players operate," Claxton stated. "They let you get out and run... make plays. I liked how they play."
Claxton had both of his parents with him for his official visit. His father, Charles Claxton, was a 7-foot center at Georgia, who averaged 11 points and seven rebounds during his four-year career (1991-1995).
"They both enjoyed it too," said the younger Claxton.
NC State head coach Mark Gottfried and his staff spoke at length with Claxton prior to him departing Raleigh. What was their pitch?
"They've been saying they'd play me all over the court," he said. "They want to use my versatility... they think I'd be a great fit."
It appears Claxton, the nation's No. 28 power forward prospect according to Scout.com, is close to making a decision. He has narrowed his list to NC State, Florida State, Baylor, Georgia, and South Carolina, and he informed Pack Pride that he will be announcing at a press conference on November 14th.
"I don't have a leader right now," he said. "I'm done with my visits and I want to talk with my parents some more before announcing my decision on November 14th.
"I'm going to be looking for a place that has good player development and a staff that cares about their players."
