Henderson: "We'll Be Ready To Play"

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State senior guard Terry Henderson met with the media to discuss the upcoming game against North Carolina.

Opening Statement:
Talked the other day with Dennis and a couple of other guys, you know, it's kind of like the old Pistons... back in the day the old Bad Boys mentality, so that's what we're going to try and bring in, and just keep incorporating it into our team.

Who is Bill Laimbeer from the group?
Man, it's probably going to be either ... either BeeJay, or ... I'd say BJ, or maybe Ted if he's in the game because he goes crazy.

Of course you always want to play tough. How do you bounce back from the road game at Miami?
We'll be ready to play. I feel like when we step on the floor against Miami ... when we first step on the floor, tip off, we wasn't really meant to be ready. We wasn't ready defensively, our concepts on the offense too wasn't in sync as the other team.

So after that game we watched ourselves on film, saw how bad it was and, you know, the next day at practice was really good for us. Like I said yesterday... we've just been getting better ever since.

Did some of the younger guys get the nerves out on the first road game?
Yeah I feel like we ... that's taken care of, you know, we just ... as long as we're comfortable with each other as a team and all five guys are out there on the court playing hard for each other we should be fine man. All that nervous stuff should actually go out of the window as soon as we step on the floor.

Are there buttons to push...
Nah it aint really it, we kind of pushed each other to ... we got in each others skin and got into each others head, and made everybody compete more at a harder level so ... plus we got Lennard in, he just got cleared.  Shout out to my boy Lennard, so he's back causing havoc for the scout team and all that.

We're just using everybody ... this is team game. Even though they walk on us, they make us better each and every practice, you know, I give them so much credit because they've got to go in each and every day and battle with this bullshit. At the same time, they almost make us better too.

You don't have to buy a ticket. But would you buy a ticket to watch Dennis Smith vs. Joel Berry?
Would I buy a ticket? Yeah, if I was a regular fan, yeah.

You've probably got a pairing against Justin Jackson, what do you think about that?
I'm just going to make it difficult for him. You know, that's basically my job. If they assign me him, so be it. If not, I'll probably have to guard  Nate Britt or number 24. I think Williams is his last name. So I'm just going to guard whatever match up I'm on. That's what I got to do, play to the best of my abilities.

What do you remember from the win there two years ago?
I think Brice had a breakaway dunk and he dunked the ball and the place went crazy, and that was the loudest I've ever heard it any arena before in my life. But I also remember Ralston Turner hitting, knocking down threes, Trevor Lacey doing his thing. BeeJay blocking shots, and Lennar getting loose buckets.

I also remember celebrating in the locker room after the win, dancing around with coach Gottfried.  So just having those memories I think is going to be good for us going in and just ready to play.

Being from Raleigh, playing in that game...
Yeah, I was like man ... it's big time right now. You know, really big time. Just seeing how much energy and how much people really pay attention to that game is unbelievable, it's unbelievable.
