RELEASE: NC State Adds Six Mid-Year Enrollees

RALEIGH, N.C. - With the 2017 Spring semester starting today at NC State, the Wolfpack football team welcomes six early enrollees that are now in classes and will take part in the upcoming spring practices.

Kollin Byers
6'5 • 270 • OL
Shelby, N.C. • Crest

• Originally signed with NC State in February of 2016.
IN HIGH SCHOOL
• Played both right tackle and center for coach Will Clark. Helped Crest win the NC 3AAA state championship as a senior (2015) with a perfect 16-0 record. Crest was also state champion and went 16-0 during his junior campaign.
• Career Stats: Transferred to Crest for 11th grade and started 34 or 36 games.
• Honors: Started for North Carolina in the 2015 Shrine Bowl.  An all-state performer.

Damien Darden
6'4 • 246 • TE

IN HIGH SCHOOL

• Honors: A first-team all-conference performer for Coach Steve Brooks as a sophomore junior and senior.  A second-team all-state choice following his senior season.
• Personal: Also played basketball in high school.  Plans to major in sport management.

IN HIGH SCHOOL
• Senior Stats:  Tallied 65 total tackles for coach Mike Gottman, including 40 solo stops. Had three sacks, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.
• Junior Stats:  Had 15 total tackles, including six solo stop in his first year playing football. Also had two sacks and a pair of pass breakups
• Personal: Stood at 5'11 prior to his junior year - his first playing football. Was born in Fayetteville as his dad was stationed at Fort Bragg and also lived two years in Korea.  Majoring in exploratory studies.

Matt McKay
6'4 • 186 • QB

IN HIGH SCHOOL
• Senior Stats: Dual threat QB who threw for 1,956 yards and 19 touchdowns as a senior for Coach Rod Sink. Rushed for 895 yardsand 17 touchdowns.
• Junior Stats: Threw for 2,486 yards and 29 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,186 yards and 17 more TDs.
• Sophomore Stats:  Tallied 2,206 passing yards and threw for 22 touchdowns.  Posed 305 rushign yards with five TDs.
• Honors:  First-team all-conference performer as a sophomore, junior and senior. Also earned academic all-conference honors all three years.
• Personal:  Won't turn 18 until next October. Ran track in high school as well, competing in the 400 and 800 meters. Majoring in exploratory studies but hopes to go into aerospace engineering.

Damontay Rhem

IN HIGH SCHOOL
• Honors:  A three-time all-conference performer for coach John Poulnott. Also a two-time academic all-conference choice.
• Senior Stats:  Rushed for 1,745 yards while tallying 432 receiving yards. Scored 17 touchdowns.  On defense, made 121 tackles, forced three fumbles and had two interceptions.
• Junior Stats:  Rushed for 1,632 yards and had 457 receiving yards. Scored 17 touchdowns. Had 12 tackles and one forced fumble.
• Sophomore Stats: Tallied 1,96 rushing yards, 169 receiving yards, along with 8.5 tackles on defense.
• Freshman Stats:  Rushed for 853 yards and five touchdowns.
• Personal:  Plans to major in sport management. Also made three appearances in the state track and field championships as a discus thrower.

Liam Ryan
6'3 • 295 • OL
Cary, N.C. • Fork Union/Cary

• Enrolled at NC State in January after spending last year at Fork Union Military Academy.
IN HIGH SCHOOL
• Honors: An academic all-conference performer for Coach Kurt Glendening at Cary High School and graduate assistant under Coach John Shuman at Fork Union
• Personal: Also completed in swimming, he is a certified pool operator and lifeguard. Plays guitar. Plans to major in biological sciences.
