Projected Position At NC State: Defensive End
Stats: Kante played in just five games due to injury but tallied nine tackles and 4.5 sacks in those games.
Personal: A native of Harlem, N.Y., he graduated from Bronx (NY) Cardinal Hayes at 17 years old. Didn't start playing football until he enrolled in high school. Has a wingspan of 6-foot-11. Previously played both the trumpet and snare drum. Plans to major in accounting.
Commit Date: 1-22-2017
Recruiting Scene: Kante is relatively new to football- having only played since enrolling in high school. His recruiting was sidetracked even further when he missed most of his senior season due to injury. The primary competition for his commitment was Temple but he canceled an official visit with the Owls once the Pack came calling. He made his official visit to Raleigh and committed during the visit.
Why NC State? "When I went to State I just felt like that was the right place for me. Today I felt like I didn't want to leave. That was a weird feeling compared to my other visits. This visit just felt different. I feel like the defensive line, the coaches, everything there will make me better."
Picked NC State Over: Temple, Rutgers, And UCONN
Scouting Report: Kante stays lows at the snap and he moves his feet quickly, but he needs to be more purposeful when firing off of the ball. The explosion to drive up the field exists sometimes, but not all the time. However, because Kante is flexible in the hips, he is able to sink low and do well when it comes to leverage. Strength is an asset for Kante, and he is able to use it to disengage from the blocker. He has good lateral movement, but he needs to work on exploding off his change of direction. If Kante moves inside in college, he has the pad level and lower body strength to take on double teams and be an impact in the running game. Scout Analyst Brian Dohn
