Alim McNeill was expecting this. He thought an offer would be coming from NC State so he was not surprised when he got the good news recently. Even if McNeill (6-2, 262) saw the offer coming he was still thrilled.
NC State has been recruiting McNeill ever since he was a high school freshman. Now a junior at Sanderson High School, McNeill has offers from several ACC schools, some other schools in non-Power 5 conferences and even some programs at the FCS level of competition.
Not long ago McNeill took a visit to Virginia Tech, one of the ACC schools that has offered him. He said that trip went great and so the Hokies are a good option in his mind. That does not mean McNeill favors Virginia Tech. He is not in a rush to make his choice and some upcoming travel could help McNeill come to a clearer idea of what he wants to do.
McNeill visited North Carolina on January 28th, Duke on February 4th and will visit East Carolina sometime in the near future. He will visit NC State for the first day of spring practice.
"I was expecting the offer from NC State because I had been talking to them for a while but it's exciting. I've been up there a lot. I've been up there for games, Junior Days, camps, all of it. Just visiting and spending time up there. I've done it all."
McNeill said he knows Nyheim Hines and Matt McKay of the players who are with NC State now. While McNeill knows those players he said he has not talked to any of them since NC State offered.
"That offer is huge because with them being so close to home and with them being in-state I was really considering NC State as one of my top schools to choose from. I was really glad that they offered me. I don't know that much about the school yet but my aunt went there a couple of years ago and I talked to her about how she liked NC State. I haven't gone on an academic tour yet so I don't know that much but I like it. I like the coaches. I like them guys because they know football and they're building something at NC State. They're great guys in general."
When McNeill visits NC State for a spring practice he said he will then spend more time visiting the school. He will bring family with him this time, because the last time there was a Junior Day his family did not travel with him. He went with another recruit instead.
