POSTGAME: Abu, Smith Discuss UNC Loss

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State's Dennis Smith and Abdul-Malik Abu met with the media after the loss to North Carolina.

"Once again we didn't do a great job on the defensive glass... that's been the Achilles heel for us all year.  It's pretty late in the ACC. That's something that should have been fixed."

"It's like losing another game."

"I don't know about that. I know me personally, I never quit regardless of the circumstances. I'm sure my team doesn't quit."

"I just now heard it.  It doesn't make or break me."

"They hit some tough ones but they also hit a lot of wide open shots. If we would have cut down the wide open shots it would have given us a better chance."

"I'm having fun."

"It's different. This is the first time I've been on a team record-wise that's a losing team.  It's something new for me, but I'm going to stick with my team, stick with my staff, and keep pressing forward."

"He doesn't mind that. We don't mind that. We all came here. We were all recruited by Gottfried and we have a lot of faith in him. I'm sure those comments don't make or break him. He'll take them in stride."

"Keep our heads up and look forward to the game on Saturday."

"We gave up a lot of open shots and that was the problem. They also hit some tough ones like I said, but we have to cut down the open shots."

"It got out of our hands... got carried away a little bit."

"We need to focus more on our defensive principles."

"They execute their offense really well... they got good position around the rim."

"Every loss feels the same so our job is to go out there and try to win the game."

"They wanted to see us win... I'm sorry we couldn't do that."

"We have to stay together as a family and put the best in front of us, keep moving forward."

"It's been a tough season but if you're a family you're supposed to make it through anything."

"We just never want to give up."

"We're trying to go out there and give it our best effort."
