Brewster Academy guard Thomas Allen informed Pack Pride today that he has requested his release from NC State. Allen signed with NC State in the fall but should be granted his release following Mark Gottfried's firing.
"As of now I'm just weighing my options and taking my time," said Allen.
Rated a four-star recruit by Scout.com, Allen had a big-time year for Brewster. Playing on a team that included signees from Florida, Purdue, and Georgia Tech, and in arguably the best prep league in the country, Allen took home NEPSAC Class AAA Player of the Year honors.
"That award meant a lot," said Allen. "That's one of the best leagues in the country, maybe the best league in the country. To get it... I think that says a lot about how well I played."
A big-time shooter who can score from three-point range, the mid-range, and at the rim, Allen is considered by most a combo guard capable of playing on the ball or on the wing. How was he used at Brewster?
"They used me more as a scorer," he said. "That was pretty much my job, to score the ball and be involved on the other end of the floor as well. For me, playing on the ball is something I like to do, but playing off the ball I like that as well. I think in college I'll be on the ball the majority of the time."
According to Allen, he would still consider NC State if they re-offered him a scholarship. The Garner (NC) standout played on the AAU circuit with Garner Road, one of the top AAU programs in the state.
Pack Pride will have more on Allen shortly so stay tuned
