Concord (NC) Robinson four-star point guard Lavar Batts Jr. has officially signed with NC State per his father, Robinson head coach Lavar Batts. The spring signing period began today.
"He signed with NC State this morning," coach Batts stated.
Batts originally signed with VCU in the fall but received his release after VCU head coach Will Wade left for LSU a couple of weeks ago.
Generally considered the top player in the state, Batts originally committed to VCU over offers from Clemson, Butler, Florida State, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and Tennessee among others.
Batts averaged 23.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game as a senior, and he became the all-time leading scorer among Cabarrus County public school players with 2,174 points.
He is NC State's first signee in the 2017 recruiting class and the first signee under new head coach Kevin Keatts.
