Cole Recaps NC State Official Visit

Cumming (GA) South Forsyth power forward Evan Cole recaps his NC State official visit.

NC State hosted Cumming (GA) South Forsyth power forward Evan Cole this weekend for an official visit, and he left impressed with the Wolfpack.

"I had a lot of fun," said Cole.  "It was fun getting to hang out with the players and see the facilities... the campus.  I spent a lot of time with Lavar Batts and Abdul-Malik Abu... it was mainly me with them all weekend."

Like Cole, Batts, NC State's lone 2017 signee, was on his official visit.

"He was cool," Cole said of Batts.  "Like I said, we were able to hang out a lot... we talked about the school and he talked about why he signed with NC State."

Their player host was Abu, who is slated to enter his senior year at NC State.

"Malik was a cool guy," Cole said.  "He really likes the campus and likes all the players on the team. He said he believes it's a good fit with the coaching staff, and he thinks he could have a nice season with how coach Keatts wants to play."

Cole was joined on his visit by his parents.

"They were really impressed," he stated.  "It was a similar setup to my visit at Wilmington.  They were really impressed with the facilities, PNC Arena, and the campus."

Cole originally signed with UNC Wilmington in the fall but requested his release after Kevin Keatts was hired by NC State.  He had 27 schools reach out after receiving his list before narrowing his focus to NC State, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, and Wofford.

"It was nice seeing them again," Cole said of Keatts and assistant coach Takayo Siddle.  "We reconnected, so it was fun.  Coach Keatts told me that he believes in me as a player.  He thinks he can help me play on any level. A lot of coaches think a player can only help them on the current level they are at, but he thinks I can help them on any level be really good."

Cole added that he didn't commit to NC State, but the Wolfpack remains on his short list and he has no leader.  He has two available official visits left to take... so what is the current plan?

"I am looking to set up an official this weekend, but I'm not sure where I'll go," he said.  "I'll also be taking an unofficial to Georgia Tech on Thursday before the official visit. I'm not sure if I'll make a decision after the official visit or not.  If I feel I'm ready to make a decision I'll do that, but if not I can still take other visits."

He had a huge senior year, as he averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks to earn all-state honors while being named county Player of the Year.
