"We've been playing teams that run the Wing T offense and except for Dillard, who we beat, everyone has been running the ball most of the time," Dunbar said. "I've been shutting it down but I've also gotten seven sacks already"
Dunbar and Deerfield suffered its first loss of the season to Ely last week. Dunbar talked about the difference between this year's version and last year's.
"They have some good athletes and they play hard but they're nothing like last year," he said. "I don't think I'll ever see a high school offensive line with two guys on it like they had last year (Andrew Bain and Cyrim Wimbs). Those two were like having two college offensive linemen on their line."
The talented defensive lineman, who also competes in varsity basketball and track, has quickly become one of the state's top defensive line prospects.
"I'm getting calls from college coaches every night," he said. "They all pretty much talk about the same things, though. It's like hearing the same thing over and over except from a coach at a different school. They all want me to come in for a visit."
Dunbar, who received calls from coaches at Oklahoma and Virginia Tech during our 20-minute conversation on Tuesday night, said he has eight programs on his list of favorites right now. He plans on visiting all of them.
"I'm gonna use my official visits for Boston (College), Georgia, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina State," he said. "I'm just gonna drive to the schools in Florida and use unofficial visits there. Florida State, I'll drive. Miami's right down the road. Florida, I'll drive."
Dunbar said he can't single out any favorites at this early stage of the recruiting process.
"All of them are in it," he said. "I feel like I can't really single someone out until I've seen the school and the city. If you've never been to a place, how can you consider it your favorite. Sometimes people really like a certain school and then go to the city and it's dead, not a real good environment. I don't want that to happen to me so I'm not naming any favorites until I take my trips."
