Houston's a marvelous athlete who last year starred at quarterback and corner for Starmount HS, leading the state of North Carolina in interceptions with SIXTEEN. That's right, sixteen interceptions in one season.
"They threw at me some and I was able to make plays," James added.
With the Wolfpack, he likes several aspects of their program.
"I like the way NC State passes the ball, and I could fit into their offense. I like the school too, and I have friends who go there."
NC State faces stiff competition from Tennessee, who offered Houston first and also reportedly as a quarterback.
"They are a big-time program, and I've been up for a game there and the stadium's huge. It's a good school like NC State and... I'm glad Tennessee has offered me."
James, with teams such as Wake Forest and South Carolina still in the mix, is in no rush to make a decision, hoping to take official visits to all four schools.
"I want to take some visits before deciding and that will be later on in the year. I am going to try and visit all of those schools, but definitely NC State and Tennessee."
Houston's working to get his grades in order and says he fully expects to qualify academically.
