Is Brown Nearing a Decision?

Greenville (NC) Rose Running Back Andre Brown started slowly this season, but following several strong performances he's near the top of the state's rushing leaders and making a push for Gatorade Player of the Year honors.

"I just broke over 2,000 yards on the season in the eighth game of the year," Andre Brown told StateFans. "Early on I sat out some quarters because the games were blowouts, but in the past four I've rushed for over 200 yards in each of them. We play Havlock (HS) this week, and I think it's going to be a tough game."

This spring Brown posted impressive numbers at the Williamston Shrine Bowl Combine. Combining that performance with his current senior year, it was no shock that this past week he was selected to play running back in the Shrine Bowl for the state of North Carolina.

"Actually, I just found out a few minutes ago. To be selected for the Shrine Bowl was one of my goals going into the year, and it's a great honor for me. I think I can go down there and do some good things for the state against South Carolina."

Something else Andre "just found out" was his good friend, George Bell, committed to Virginia Tech on national television over NC State and North Carolina. But did Brown "really" just find that out?

"Yea, that's good for him. He actually told me the other day that he was going to Virginia Tech. I think it fits his style of running... with Tech using those big, power backs. To be honest with you I would have loved to play with George if we could have went to the same school, but I'm happy for him."

In his own recruitment, Brown's seen two teams rise to the top of his list, with the Wolfpack as one of his leaders.

"NC State's looking good with me right now. They co-lead with Virginia over Nebraska, Miami, and Tennessee. I already visited Virginia, and I'm going to visit Nebraska on November 15th and NC State on December 5th. I don't think I am going to visit Tennessee and Miami. That's up in the air right now, but I don't know if I'll need to."

What exactly does the nation's #13 running back like about Virginia and NC State?

"The coaches at Virginia are real down-to-earth, and I like Coach Groh's NFL coaching experience. He seems to really know what he's talking about, and I liked the official visit up there too."

"With State, I like Coach Diaz a lot and they were the first to really begin recruiting me. I got my first ever letter from them, and I'll never forget that. I like Coach Amato too, and I think the environment at NC State seems to fit what I'm looking for."

Brown intends on visiting NC State in two weeks for the Wolfpack's match-up with the Virginia Cavaliers on November 1st.

Can we be expecting an early decision from Brown, or will he be ready on Signing Day after taking all his visits?

"To be honest with you, I think I'll be ready to decide after that N.C. State visit in December. I want to have ended everything by my birthday (December 15th) and the Shrine Bowl game (December 20th)."
