Speaking of Toney Baker, the junior is the state's leading rusher, after a 270 yard/3 TD performance against Eastern Randolph HS. On the year he has 2,332 yards and 29 touchdowns for Ragsdale, and could surpass the 3,000 yard mark with a strong play-off run. Baker (PICTURED), who some consider the state's top back regardless of class, is reportedly interested in Virginia Tech, NC State, and North Carolina, with a preference for staying in the ACC. Rumors persist that each of the three schools lead, depending on who you ask... meaning Baker's recruitment should last until signing day 2005. Toney will likely be the state's #1 prospect next season and a major target for NC State.
I was in Greenville Friday night for Rose HS and Andre Brown's game with the Havelock (NC) Rams. Brown didn't disappoint, rushing for 155 yards on 16 carries and one score in the 48-7 victory. There was a "scare" with Brown and look for more on him today from StateFans!
Miami (FL) Killian Running Back Bobby Washington (PICTURED) rushed 19 times for 195 yards and 4 touchdowns in Killian's 48-0 victory over Sunset (FL) HS. The Univ. of Miami verbal caught the attention of Wolfpack fans recently when he reported to another media outlet that although he's committed to Miami, he would visit NC State and they are in second for his services. Bobby mentioned to StateFans this summer that he would visit the Wolfpack, even after committing to the hometown Hurricanes. Washington should be considered a longshot for NC State right now because of his obvious ties with Miami, but if they land Texas RB Adrian Peterson or Florida RB Charlie Jones, he could look elsewhere so stay tuned!
Palm Beach (FL) Gardens Defensive End Willie Young was "offensive" this weekend for the Gators, scoring on a 5-yard TD reception in their 34-3 victory over Wellington HS. Palm Beach Gardens is now 8-0 on the season, clinching the conference title with Friday's win. Young is considered one of the top defensive end prospects in the nation, sporting offers from NC State, Ohio State, Florida, and Georgia among others. His list is lengthy and he's in no hurry to cut it, but Young previously mentioned to the StateFans that NC State would get an official visit. NC State was the first school to offer Willie, while also having him on campus for an unofficial during last season's win over Florida State.
Glades (FL) Central WR Albert Dukes was recently featured on "Countdown to Signing Day," naming NC State, Miami, and Ohio State his current leaders. Dukes (PICTURED), arguably Florida's top wide receiver prospect, had another great game on Friday for Central, with 7 receptions for 76 yards and 1 touchdown. On the year he has 38 receptions for 787 yards and 11 touchdowns, pacing 8-0 Central. Glades produces talented wide receivers each season, with Dukes following standouts such as Reidel Anthony, Reggie Vickers, and Santonio Holmes. He's a close friend of current Wolfpacker Garland Heath, and Albert will be in Raleigh December 6th for an official visit. Barring a Miami offer, you have to like NC State's chances.
West (IA) Iowa City HS RB Greg Coleman returned from a school-imposed suspension two weeks ago and has played well, rushing for 157 yards on 18 carries and 2 TDs (including a 72-yard run) Friday night. Coleman has stated the Wolfpack are recruiting him very hard and have offered a scholarship, along with North Carolina, Michigan, and Iowa among others. NC State's believed to be in his top three, along with the Wolverines and Hawkeyes respectively.
Stay tuned this week for exclusive updates from StateFans on these Wolfpack recruiting targets:
