"Hopefully it's going to be a good game," John McEachin told StateFans. "I think they are suppose to be the second best team around so I hope we can beat them. Toney Baker plays for them and he's a good player."
This year Trinity has moved McEachin all over the field, after primarily using him at running back last season, when he rushed for over 2,300 yards and 32 touchdowns. He's playing the majority of the snaps at quarterback now, giving him more options on the field while not limiting his production, as he's already rushed for 2,014 yards and 27 touchdowns and passed for another 732 yards and 7 scores.
"I have a lot more responsibility on me this year because of playing quarterback," he said. "It makes it harder on me, but it gives me more options in the game because although we are a running team it let's me pass the ball if I need to."
Not much has changed on the recruiting front for John, as he's still hearing from the regional schools that have always been in touch, and they are all waiting on his academic status to be determined before putting forth scholarship offers.
"[NC] State, South Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, [North] Carolina, ECU, Wake… all those schools have been calling me. They all are telling me that once I get my grades I'll have a scholarship from them."
McEachin has taken several unofficial visits this year, but has not set up any official trips as of yet.
"So far I've been to almost all of [NC] State's games this year and I'm going to watch them play Virginia this weekend. I went to a game at Wake Forest and I'm going to go to South Carolina and watch them play Florida in a few weeks. But, I haven't taken any official visits yet."
Some NC State fans have stated on various message boards that you can catch McEachin flashing the "Wolfpack" sign on Friday nights following each touchdown. Is that the case and did he grow up a fan of NC State?
"Yea, I do that because I like it and all," he said. "I grew up a fan of [North] Carolina though. But, I'm not looking at them that much because I didn't like it down at their camp."
John pointed out that he has a top four of NC State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, and South Carolina, with the others falling in behind them. If he gets an offer from one of his favorites, will the Trinity athlete accept it on the spot?
"I'll probably take some visits before committing or anything. I want to sit down with my dad and talk about everything before committing to a school."
StateFans will be in attendance Friday night for Trinity's matchup with Ragsdale. Check back for a full scouting report on John McEachin and Ragdale's Toney Baker.
