The Sioux Falls Roosevelt star averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds a game last season. However, it was his play on the summer circuit that really sparked interest in his game. Krabbenhoft is a well-rounded small forward with a game that moves inside and to the perimeter where he's particularly dangerous.
For Krabbenhoft, playing in the summer is huge because he doesn't get to face that kind of competition during the season. "Last summer was the biggest summer for me so far," Krabbenhoft said. "You can definitely tell who you're playing against when you get back home."
Colleges were impressed with his July effort. So impressed that they came in droves during September. Many have offered unofficial visits and he's taken them up on their offers. Last weekend he was in South Bend hanging out with the Golden Domers.
Mike Brey and his staff have done a fine job recruiting him. "I really liked [the visit]. Coach Brey is really nice. I really felt like I fit in there really well. Their style of play really fit me. They're definitely one of my top choices."
Krabbenhoft would like to start taking visits in January. He says he'll grant the Irish, North Carolina State round out his early list which is most definitely subject to change.
He's already been to Minnesota (3-4 times), Wisconsin, Michigan State.
Five of the six schools he's really looking at right now – Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Creighton, N.C. State and Minnesota – have already offered. Kansas is the lone school on the list that has not made a firm scholarship offer.
Krabbenhoft is looking to commit prior to next summer. "I'm trying to make my decision somewhere around March. I just want to know where I'm going so I'm able to concentrate on my summer and have a good senior year. Then, I can really get to know the players and the coaches at that school."
Naturally, making visits and reaching a decision early can be tough. "I just try to look at the coaching and everything like that. I want to look at the style of play. For instance, when I went to Notre Dame, it seemed like they play the exact style I like. I also want to look at academics. I can hang out with the players and see what kind of guys are recruited there that I'll play with."
