Coaching Insights: Chip Williams Talks Shrine Bowl

Rock Hill, SC -- New Bern (NC) Head Coach Chip Williams will lead this year's North Carolina Shrine Bowl team into battle against South Carolina this Saturday.
StateFans caught up with Coach Williams for his insights on a few Shrine Bowl players and the NC State Wolfpack.

Coach Williams on NC State Verbal Vanceboro (NC) West Craven Defensive Lineman Gerard Miller:

"Gerard is a very good prospect, and I'm sure NC State is happy to have landed him. He's playing the "5 technique" for us this weekend and he's doing a great job. Gerard's explosive, quick off the edge, and has tremendous leadership qualities that will carry over well to when he gets up to NC State."

Marshville (NC) Forrest Hills Defensive Tackle Marque Hall:

"Marque's a player who just creates havoc everywhere. He's so quick inside and very strong with amazing footwork. I'd love to meet an offensive lineman anywhere who can block him one-on-one."

Greenville (NC) Rose Running Back Andre Brown:

"Andre's the total package at running back. He's quick, elusive, and very strong for a player at that position. He along with Jamaal Edwards gives us some great options in the backfield on Saturday. Andre's probably the state player of the year, and he's going to be a great one."

New Bern (NC) Quarterback/Athlete Davon Drew:

"Davon's a good 6'4 215 and runs a legit 4.6. He's very athletic for the quarterback position and can even play other positions in college. He's rotating this week with Antonio Miller, but he's been a good one for me while he was at New Bern."

New Bern HS Underclassmen D-1 Prospects:

"I have two juniors who will likely end up being heavily recruited next year. The first is Julian Williams, who's about 6'5 265 and a very, very good offensive lineman for us. The other is Montario Hardsty, a 6'2 Defensive Back who athletically can play on any level."

NC State Linebackers Coach Manny Diaz (Recruits New Bern HS for NCSU):

"Manny's all you can ask for as a recruiter. He's a personable and energetic guy who really sells the university well. He evaluates and is very straight-forward with where kids stand with NC State, and that's all you can ask for."
