Rock Hill, S.C. - Behind the offensive balance of Andre Brown and Jamaal Edwards, the Tarheels from North Carolina topped the South Carolina Sandlappers 21-12, their second straight victory in the series.

North Carolina Offensive MVP -- RB Andre Brown (16 carries 122 yards 1 TD)
North Caroina Defensive MVP -- LB Dannell Ellerbe (9 tackles, 2 sacks, INT)

The 65th annual Shrine Bowl opened with both teams struggling to establish anything on the offensive side of the ball, before the Tarheels scored on an 11-yard TD pass from Davon Drew late in the first quarter.

The Sandlappers came back with their first score of the day with just 19 seconds left in the second quarter, a beautiful 13-yard scoring strike from Trey Elder to WR Tremel Kline. The extra point attempt was blocked and the game entered half-time with North Carolina on top 7-6.

Andre Brown, who was recently voted the state of NC's player of the year, put the Tarheels up 13-6 on a 26-yard TD scamper early in the 3rd period, after each team struggled offensively in the first half.

His longest run of the day, a 43-yarder, set up North Carolina's final score, a 5-yard TD run by Goddard.

Following a Sidney Rice 16-yard score and missed conversation for South Carolina, the Shrine Bowl concluded with the Tarheels winning 21-12 over the Sandlappers.

Ellerbe led a strong NC defense featuring Gerard Miller (1 sack 3 tackles for loss), Marque Hall (5 tackles 1.5 sacks), and Hilee Taylor (5 tackles and 1 sack).
