As a true freshman for one of the nation's top junior colleges, Chad received plenty of playing time. He helped lead Hinds to a second place finish in their conference and runner-up for the Mississippi state championship.
"I think I played pretty good. I started at defensive end for Hinds and not too many freshman start in junior college. I think I finished with 13.5 sacks."
Chad's strong play impressed many observers including his defensive ends coach at Hinds, Larry Williams.
"He's a real explosive guy and has the ability to take over a game from that position," Coach Williams said. "If it was up to me, I'd let him come off the edge and just make plays... because that's what he can do."
After an outstanding freshman season, several programs have been in contact with Green about his future plans. However, the talented prospect remains firm to the Wolfpack.
"Yea, I'm still committed to NC State, and the plan is to go there [in] December. I just like Chuck Amato and all the coaches there. I like how the program's coming up and they play young players."
Hinds also featured another stud defensive end from North Carolina, in Beulaville (NC) East Duplin's Greg Peterson. Is Peterson planning on running with the Wolfpack... the program which placed him at Hinds?
"Greg... man he's real good. He's just so strong and disruptive, kind of like Lawrence Taylor. We are real close now that we were at Hinds together. He said that he's going to NC State too."
With the season over, Chad can now begin to focus on the books and hit the weights, preparing for his final season at Hinds before matriculating to Raleigh.
"I'll really start lifting now that the season is over. Right now I weigh about 240 and I want to get up to 250."
Editor's Note: Defensive End Chad Green is NC State's first commitment in the Class of 2005. Hailing from Northern Nash High School in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Green will have three years to play two seasons with the Wolfpack. StateFans spoke with Chad while he was home for Christmas Break and this article confirms his intentions to re-sign with Coach Chuck Amato and the NC State program.
