In November, Brooks said he was still committed to NC State and was looking forward to his days in Raleigh. "I told the coaches that they don't have to worry, and I'll be back… I just can't wait to get back," Brooks told StateFans.
Staying true to his commitment, Raymond is scheduled to return to Raleigh and enroll at NC State for the Spring Semester.
StateFans called Raymond Brooks to find out the latest but found that the DL was out saying farewell to a few friends.
However, we were able to talk to his mother, Sherry Brooks, and asked her if Raymond was ready to go.
"Oh yea. I think so. He will be down there sometime Thursday night. He is out with some friends tonight saying goodbye."
We asked her about the time he spent last summer in Raleigh.
"He was down there for almost a month, about three weeks and he came home for a weeks visit. He went back down there and he only stayed for a week or two and then he came back home. I think he kind of needed to come home and deal with his personal issues and get it under his belt that it is where he is going to be. It is so far away from home for him and I think that was a big issue he really wasn't expecting."
We also asked Mrs. Brooks if she was looking forward to her son's next step.
"I am looking forward to it a great deal."
Enrolling this spring will allow Raymond to attend spring practices and compete for playing time as a true freshman. He will have five seasos to play four and will likely play either defensive end or defensive tackle at NC State.
