PLAYER SCOUTING REPORTS
*- Denotes Probable Starter
NC State Wolfpack:
*G Engin Atsur- Heady freshman who has proven valuable at the point guard position for NC State. Shooting the ball remarkably well in recent games and could be better off the ball. Very saavy and uses quick hands and good feet on defense to draw charges, steals, and make deflections.
*G Scooter Sherrill- Streaky outside shooter who is very good when open. Decent ball-handler who does a good job of creating opportunities out of the N.C. State offense. Better than average defender who has improved considerably each season. Will have the tough task of guarding the deadly JJ Redick.
*G Julius Hodge- Talented player who is the heart and soul of the Wolfpack. Streaky shooter, who finishes VERY well with his left hand. The ability to maneuver and finish with either hand sets him apart from most players in the league. Long, sleek frame allows him to defend well and he rebounds better then you would expect.
*F Marcus Melvin (PICTURED)- Very good shooter for a 6'9 player. Much better standing still shooter then off the dribble. Lefty is an average athlete, but does well with the dribble to create space against defenders. Creates matchup problems for most ACC big men. Has improved defensively and on the boards this year. Very good free throw shooter.
*C Jordan Collins- Has created a spark since starting for the Wolfpack. Has transformed his body and made him a much better player. Good shooter out to 3-point range and has a nice mid-range jumper. Can finish around the room via the hook shot or drop-step. Average athlete who rebounds adequately.
F/C Ilian Evtimov- Tough, intense player who logs major minutes at the 5 spot. Crafty with the dribble and can pass extremely well from the top of the key. Good 3-point shooter who is not afraid to take his man off the dribble. Has a very good pump-fake and can finish with either hand. A below average ACC athlete, Evtimov makes up for it with saavy and intelligence. Strong rebounder and post-defender.
F Levi Watkins- Very good athlete who can provide scoring punch off the bench. Can knock down the mid-range jumper and has 3-point range. Very good shooter from the wings and flows his offense toward the corners. A solid defender who will draw charges and rebounds well.
G Mike O'Donnell- Freshman who's minutes have decreased but works well within the system. Can stick the open jumper and run the offense. Frail and slight but does a good job of playing defense.
G/F Cameron Bennerman- Wolfpack's most athletic player will attack the rim if given the opportunity. Sophomore is improving on the defensive end and with his jumper.
Duke Blue Devils:
*G Chris Duhon- Senior leader for the Blue Devils who will look to push tempo. Strong defensive player and adequate shooter. Loves to finish around the rim with floaters and tough lay-ups off the glass. Solid player.
*G JJ Redick (PICTURED)- The ACC's deadliest shooter... period. Will knock down the jumper everytime an opportunity presents itself. Does a great job of losing defenders on screens and uses a nice pump fake to create space. Adequate player off the dribble, but his trademark is the 3-point shot. Adequate defender who plays to the crowd.
*G Daniel Ewing- Strong offensive player who is a very good long-range shooter. Another good athlete who can defend well.
*F Loul Deng- ACC's top freshman who is a very versatile prospect. Loves to take the mid-range jumper and can take the PFs/Cs in the league off the dribble. An adequate athlete who has good basketball IQ and makes plays. Long body allows him to defend well. Adequate 3-point shooter.
*F Shelden Williams- Could be ACC's top interior prospect who finishes strong around the bucket. GREAT hands and a very good body. Rebounds well and has above-average touch.
G Sean Dockery- Quick, energy player who provides spark for the Blue Devils off the bench. Below-average shooter who can pass it very well.
F Lee Melchionni- Good shooter who has been receiving more minutes. Saavy player.
F/C Shavlik Randolph- Talented sophomore who has added 20 pounds of muscle. Physical player who does a good job of finishing in the paint. Very good touch and has good feet for a big man. Defense has steadily improved over the course of the season.
F/C Nick Horvath- Gets a few minutes per game working the paint. Has transformed his body and can play the posts for Duke.
Key Matchup: JJ Redick vs. Scooter Sherrill -- The matchup of two of the better shooting guards in the ACC will be critical in the game. Sherrill will be looking to shutdown Redick, the outstanding shooter who has had great games against NC State. Look for Scooter to try and shadow his every move, but a hint of advice to Sherrill... watch out for the screens.
Player to Watch: Julius Hodge-- The Wolfpack star struggled against Duke in the first game and he will be looking to redeem himself Sunday night. Look for Hodge to feed off the crowd's emotions and have a big game, but will it be enough?
