"I went to North Carolina State last month and it was real tight," Ponder said. "I liked it a lot more than I thought I was going to. It's nice there, they got a lot of guys from down here, and I think I'll be able to do some things up there early in my career."
A trip to the University of Georgia came next for Ponder but it didn't take long before he realized that wasn't the place for him.
"It was alright but it's not something that blew me away or anything," he said. "I sorta dropped them. I just wasn't feelin it."
Then came his visit to UM, which took place this past weekend. He gave a quick recap on Sunday and gave a little more insight tonight.
"It was alright too," he said. "We went over to the stadium and you know how the players run through the smoke before the game? Well, that's what we did, just as recruits. That had everyone all hyped. It was fun. Then we just chilled and went to some clubs and stuff like that. I met with the coaches and we went over some things. I feel at home when I'm at UM."
Ponder, a full academic qualifier, is now trying to choose between the Canes and Wolfpack.
"It's a harder decision than I thought," he said. "NC State gave me something to think about but I still like UM a lot too. I'll (announce) on the 4th."
Ponder said he's hosted coaches from both programs already this week and is getting a better understanding of where he stands.
"I just need a few more days to think over everything," he said.
