Three Hargrave Prepsters Ink With NC State

Heading into this prep season, NC State had one commitment placed at Hargrave, RB Darrell Blackman. However, on signing day two other prep prospects joined Blackman in signing with the Wolfpack.

Heading into this prep season, NC State had one commitment placed at Hargrave, RB Darrell Blackman. However, on signing day two other prep prospects joined Blackman in signing with the Wolfpack.

Super tight end Anthony Hill and defensive lineman Brandon Setzer also signed with NC State, ending their recruitments after not inking with any college program last season.

Blackman headlines the trio and is an instant-impact type player for the Wolfpack. A consensus top-10 back nationally out of Williamsport (PA) High, Darrell signed with NC State last season but failed to qualify academically. He is now on track to qualify and will join TA McLendon in the backfield to form a devastating duo.

At 6'0 200 pounds and blessed with 4.4 speed in the 40, Darrell has a chance to take it the distance every time he touches the ball. He's a unique back that has outstanding vision, balance, and the ability to run either between the tackles or on the edge. Look for Blackman to provide instant stability to a backfield that needs another playmaker.

Hill came to Hargrave out of Houston, Texas. He had a strong senior season, but due to academic questions he never signed with a program before ending up in Chatham, VA. This season he played tight end and defensive end for the prep school, standing out at both positions. An outstanding physical specimen, the 6-foot-6 260 pound jumbo athlete has been timed at 4.75 in the 40 and did over 20 reps of 225 on the bench at the Hargrave combine.

Anthony's strong play garnered offers from programs such as Virginia Tech, NC State, North Carolina, and Clemson among others, but he selected the Wolfpack on the eve of signing day. His strength and athleticism gives him the versatility to play up to four positions at NC State: tight end, defensive end, defensive tackle, or offensive tackle. The steal of NC State's recruiting class could be Anthony Hill.

Brandon Setzer always had his eye on NC State, even as senior at Thomasville (NC) High School. Setzer never signed with the Wolfpack, but after being placed at Hargrave and showcasing immense talent on the defensive line, NC State came calling. After a mid-January official visit, Brandon chose NC State over Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

A basketball star in high school, the 6-foot-6 275 pound Setzer was the state 1-A Mr. Basketball as a senior and his natural athleticism translates well onto the gridiron. Hargrave coach Robert Prunty at one time tabbed Brandon his top defensive lineman, high praise considering talents such as Terry Hunter, Khalief Mitchell, and Marcus Hands prepped at Hargrave. Look for Setzer to be a star for NC State at defensive tackle.

The Wolfpack landed three of the finest players from Hargrave Military Academy, a prep school that will continue to put out top talent.
