Wolfpack Signee Cedric Simmons and the West Brunswick (NC) Trojans upset the Kinston Vikings 62-57 in the first round of the state playoffs.

Simmons led the way for West Brunswick, finishing with 23 points 13 rebounds and 6 blocks. His inside presence and ability to dominate the game on both ends of the floor was too much for Kinston.

"I told everyone that Cedric Simmons is the real deal," Kinston coach Wells Gulledge told the Kinston Free Press. "He's a great player and they did a good job of throwing the ball 11 feet high and letting him go get it. He was their pressure relief all night."

Trojan senior guard Chris Bland added 16 points for West Brunswick. Kinston's leading scorer, Darryl Jones, paced the Vikings with 30 points.

West Brunswick (12-12) advances to the sectional semifinals, where they play Southern Wayne (14-11) at home tonight at 7:00 PM.
