Andrew Brackman's Cincinnati (OH) Moeller Crusaders began defense of their 2003 state title by defeating Mt. Healthy 71-38 in the first round of sectional play on the campus of Xavier University.
We moved the ball around well, which created open shots for us, and we were hitting them," Duncan told the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Moeller's next game will be Sunday against Lakota West High School at the Cintas Center. The Crusaders are 19-2 on the season and the #2 ranked team in the state of Ohio.
In Shallotte, North Carolina, the West Brunswick Trojans continued their surprising run in the state playoffs by defeating Southern Wayne High School 55-50 in the 3A sectional title game.
Senior guard Chris Bland scored 26 points for the Trojans, including the last 8 points from the free throw line. Bland was 14-14 on the night from the line and snatched a game-high 14 rebounds.
"I was real relaxed," Bland told the Star-News. "I just concentrated on making them. Free throws make the difference in a game like this. They played hard for 32 minutes, but we just wanted it more."
NC State signee Cedric Simmons (pictured) again had a big night for West Brunswick, finishing with 16 points 13 rebounds and 7 blocks. He and Bland scored 42 of the Trojans 55 points and will be crucial in tonight's matchup against Greensboro (NC) Dudley High School.
West Brunswick (15-12) battles Dudley tonight in the regional semifinal at East Carolina University's Minges Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM. Dudley features two of the state's top underclassmen in Power Forward Kevin Swinton (Wake Forest verbal) and Guard William Graves.
