John Bedics Excited About the Wolfpack

NC State looked to beef up their defensive front with the Class of 2004, and one of their signees was Bethlehem (PA) Catholic's John Bedics. StateFans caught up with the All-State defensive end to talk about his signing and to get his thoughts on the Wolfpack.
Check StateFans tomorrow for exclusive video highlights of Bedics in action!

Signing day was a big event for Bethlehem Catholic's John Bedics. After a stellar career on the Bethlehem Catholic defensive line, he was able to parlay his talents into a scholarship offer from NC State. We asked John how he felt about signing day.

"I was very excited," said Bedics. "It was a big day. They had a thing at school where all the media and newspapers came and my family was there for the signing and everything. It was a real exciting day."

After the signing ceremony, John faxed his Letter of Intent to North Carolina State and then called the Wolfpack coaching staff.

"After we faxed it down we talked to Coach [Greg] Williams who was recruiting me," said John. "We were both excited about making me a part of the Wolfpack. I am looking forward to it."

The chance to play in the "new ACC" was just too much to pass on for Bedics. After being recruited by several northeastern schools, NC State won out in the end for a variety of reasons.

"When I went down, I really liked the coaches. It is just a great atmosphere," explained John. "I mean just playing on a good team in the ACC. It's just a good time to play in the ACC. It has turn into a great conference since they combined. I was just really excited about that."

The NC State coaching staff has already sent John his conditioning program for the remainder of the year. "They gave me the strength and conditioning program trying to condition me but not anything specific yet," said Bedics.

NC State would like to add more players from the talent-laden Keystone State. QB Marcus Stone hails from Pennsylvania, and he will soon be joined by Bedics.

"I will be going down on my own. I have met some guys during my visit but more or less I am on my own," explained John. "I know one of the guys because my brother went to Hargrave. I met one of his friends when I went down, Shane Lucas."

John's goal is to play right away for the Wolfpack, and says he is ready to work towards that goal.

"I am going to work as hard as I can to get on the field, that's my goal. But if I redshirt, I redshirt," John told StateFans. "We talked about that and we will see when I go down. But I want to get on the field as soon as possible."

While Bedics is unsure of when he will be coming to Raleigh, he hopes to get to NC State as soon as he completes his senior season at Bethleham Catholic.

"Everything is going well. My academics are going well and we are finishing up our basketball season now," said John. "I am not very sure when I am going down yet. I guess when camp starts. I don't know if I will go down for work-outs during the summer. I am not sure yet. We haven't got into that yet."
