Joe Pate Takes New Position

NC State Director of Athletics Lee Fowler has announced that Joe Pate, a 34-year veteran of the coaching ranks, has been named an Assistant Athletics Director. Pate will serve as the Assistant Athletics Director for Quality Control for Football.

NC State Director of Athletics Lee Fowler has announced that Joe Pate, a 34-year veteran of the coaching ranks, has been named an Assistant Athletics Director. Pate will serve as the Assistant Athletics Director for Quality Control for Football.

Pate's new responsibilities will include assisting in the administration of the football program and serving as the quality control liaison for the Murphy Football Center and the new media center at Carter-Finley Stadium, Wolfpack Towers. He will also be a member of Fowler's Leadership Team for the athletics department.

"Joe Pate will be an invaluable addition to our athletic administration," said Fowler. "I look forward to the benefit of his experience and knowledge on our staff and I am very happy that he decided to take this position."

Pate has spent 11 total years on the Wolfpack football staff as a defensive coach, serving as defensive coordinator from 1986-89 and coaching linebackers, defensive line and special teams from 1997 until last season. He has also coached at Arkansas, UT-Chattanooga and on the high school level.

A 1968 graduate of Alabama, Pate earned his master's in education in 1970.
