NC State in the Mix for Big Time Shooter

Arlington Country Day shooter David Huertas is a commodity. The native of Humaco, Puerto Rico has one of the purest strokes in the country. Here's a look at who's looking at him.

When it's all said and done, Jacksonville (FL) Arlington Country junior shooter David Huertas is likely to be one of the more hotly recruited guards in his class. Why? He's got a gift.

Cruise around your NCAA Tournament bracket and see the value that is placed on shooting the basketball from the perimeter. Huertas can certainly stroke it with the best of them in his class.

North Carolina State are in the mix. Florida State. "I've never had a kid that's been more highly recruited than this kid has," Miami Tropics head coach Art Alvarez said.

Huertas can play. That's not in doubt. A guy with his skills will have his pick of schools that's why the decision hinges on some simple principles.

"It's going to come down to where is he going to have a legitimate opportunity to go and play as a freshman? He doesn't want to go into a program where they've recruited three other David Huertas type players. That's a concern with the big programs. It's going to come down to where he feels like he can go in and maybe even star. Who needs his playing style? Who needs a great shooter that can shoot it with the best of them?"

The timetable is for Huertas to maybe take some spring visits, though his Miami Tropics will play an aggressive spring schedule.

"If he has a great summer that I anticipate he's going to and he's has a good Nike All-American Camp, what I'd like to do with him is get him signed early November and get that out of the way. Then he could get his year going and have a relaxing year. They'll have a great year next year."
