Florida Linebacker has Wolfpack in his Top Five

One name that seems to be left off recruiting lists that come out of South Florida this year is Miramar High School linebacker Artis Wharten. He is a 6-foot-2, 205 pound tackling machine.

Last season Artis Wharten was one of the leading tacklers on the Miramar defense and he contributed at least eight sacks and two forced fumbles.

Even though it is early in the recruiting process, Wharten has been getting letters from many of the top programs in college football, including North Carolina State, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin.

"I like Miami, FSU, NC State, Wisconsin and Pittsburgh," Wharten said. "Those are my top five favorite teams at this time."

So did Wharten have one school that he followed the most growing up? "Yeah, FSU, that was my team growing up."

The player Wharten most admires on the football field is a fellow linebacker. "I like Lavar Arrington the most," Wharten said. "He is very aggressive and that is how I play the game."

The most important thing for Wharten this year is not only to get better but for his football team to make the playoffs. Miramar went 1-9 last season. "Last year was tough and I want our team to make a run in the playoffs, a turnaround from this past season would be great," he said.
