Replacing a legend

Even with Marcus Stone doubtful to play in N.C. State's annual spring football game this Saturday, Wolfpack coach Chuck Amato is mum on who will replace All-ACC performer Philip Rivers at starting quarterback this fall.
Other featured stories for 4/2:
Pack QB hopeful injured

Hodge Watch
"But unless Hodge can be reasonably assured after the June 1-2 pre-draft camp that he'll be a first-rounder, his best option would be to withdraw from the draft and play for State next season. He can pull his name out up to a week before the draft and still return to NCSU." - Caulton Tudor 3/24/2004

Rivers Watch
"Rivers has a demeanor, a presence about him. Everyone talks about his delivery, but we have no reservations regarding his throwing motion. He has the ability to make all the throws." - Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer - 3/30/2004

Quote of the Day: Wolfpack QB Jay Davis - "We'll really be able to tell when they get out there on a Saturday and they have Florida State or Clemson on the other side of the ball and the stadium's loud and it's on TV for all the marbles. That's when we'll really see who the better quarterback is."

Bundled up in a hooded sweatshirt and winter coat to shield him from a frigid April wind, Amato stepped off the practice field hoping that Stone might have only dislocated the finger. Regardless of the severity of the injury, Amato said Stone likely would not play in the scrimmage Saturday. Read More
