A Package Deal in the Works for N.C. State?

Plantation (Fl) High school, fresh off a strong 2003 season, will be bolstered this year by four potential high-major college prospects. Perhaps the most productive could be wide receiver Cedric McGee.

"We had a good season," Cedric McGee told StateFans. "We finished 10-2, and I had 21 catches for 450 yards and 4 touchdowns. We didn't throw much though."

Cedric was one of the better wide receivers at the recent Miami NIKE Camp, where he caught everything thrown his way and impressed in the drills.

"In the one-on-one's I did good... real good. I caught all the passes, and I impressed some people there. It was a good camp for me overall."

With the May evaluation period approaching McGee's recruitment will certainly pickup. However, he already has some strong offers and a solid top five list of schools that he's interested in.

"N.C. State, Miami, Florida State, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee's my top five. Pittsburgh and Auburn have already offered the full scholarships. Miami's probably my favorite right now because my uncle, Michael Irvin, went there. After them is N.C. State."

Cedric's uncle, the aforementioned Michael Irvin, was a star at Miami and for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL. He's been a big influence on his nephew and will continue to do so.

"He's a great influence on me, as a football player, a student, and even as a person," Cedric said.

The program listed after Miami, N.C. State, is also on McGee's mind.

"I think they are going to be pretty good in the next couple of years, and I think they have a building program," he said.

Cedric is joined by DT Jeffrey Owens, RB/WR Dennis Campbell, and LB Steve Johnson as potential big-time college prospects at Plantation, and he points out that all four really like the Wolfpack.

"Yes sir, we all like N.C. State. We've been thinking about a little package with all of us going to N.C. State. That's something we've talked about."

"We just like the college. One of our coaches went up there and said the facilities were great. We saw a brochure that had some photos, and it looked real good. When we go up to camp we'll see that."

McGee will camp at N.C. State, Pittsburgh, and Miami this summer. He will also attend the MSL combine held this weekend at the University of Miami.

Expect a late decision from Cedric, as he wants to take all his visits before deciding.
