Pauline's Take: NFL Prospect Jerricho Cotchery

NFL Draft Guru Tony Pauline is one of the most respected analysts in the business, and he talked with StateFans about NC State's former players expected to be chosen in the upcoming draft. Today we discuss NFL Wide Receiver Prospect Jerricho Cotchery.

Tony Pauline is the top NFL Draft Guru on TheInsiders network and has been judging college/NFL talent for 16 years. He started with local papers and publications in the northeast before beginning his own draft service in 1997. His draft reports can now be found at The NFL Insiders where he's recognized as "TFY Draft Preview."

StateFans: Have you heard anything lately on Jerricho Cotchery?

Tony Pauline: "He's a nice receiver. He's not too big or fast. He's been consistent over his North Carolina State career... had a good junior season, but he's never really stood out enough to make you believe he would be a REALLY good prospect. He's a nice prospect though and I think he's going to be a solid third receiver in the NFL."

SF: So would that translate into a 3rd or 4th round pick? What's his draft status looking like right now?

Pauline: "Well, he's probably going to be a 4th round pick right now. You're talking about a deep, deep wide receiver draft. There will be receivers midway through the second round that in normal years would be first round choices, so I think that will push others down. He may fit into the late part of the first day, but right now I think he's more of a fourth round choice."

SF: When you say he may be a third receiver type, what role is that in the NFL? Is that a certain mold of receiver that teams are looking at?

Pauline: "Well, basically he's not going to be a starter. He'll be a guy that on third-and-long they will bring him on the field, trips on top or the right they'll bring him, or if the starter needs a blow/rest they'll bring him on the field. I don't think he'll be a starter but he could have a nice career."

SF: Another guy I wanted to mention to you is Longsnapper Danny Young. Have you heard anything on him and do longsnappers get taken in the draft?

Pauline: "Yea, he's getting a lot of play. Recently they have gone in the 5th/6th/7th round area. Some teams like the Ravens have had success while others like the Cleveland Browns have selected them early and got burnt. He could late in the draft, but he'll definitely be brought into a camp."
