Who Leads for Morley?

It's no secret that NC State's done a great job recruiting Miami (Fl.) Killian High School the past few years, with the signings of alums Pat Thomas, Andre Maddox, Steve Tulloch, and Miguel Scott to the Wolfpack roster.

In '05 the Cougars will have another star on their roster: Defensive Back Demetrius Morley. Morley had a strong junior year, garnering All-Dade County honors and he expects to build on that this upcoming season.

"I did well," he said. "I had over fifty tackles, nine interceptions, 10 break-ups, and 3 blocked kicks. I think I can do better than that though. I'm going for the school record (20) in picks, and I can do it."

Demetrius performed well at the recent Miami NIKE camp, ripping off a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash and posting the highest vertical jump mark (38 inches) among camp participants. That athleticism and his production on the football field has led to interest from high-major programs across the country, and Morley's taking it all in stride.

"I'm loving recruiting right now," he said. "Florida, Auburn, Texas, Miami, Syracuse, and NC State are some of the schools who have come by school. Michigan, Florida, Oklahoma, Miami, and NC State are my top five schools. They've been recruiting me the hardest, and I like them the best right now."

Two of his favorites have put firm offers on the table, with the other two claiming the paperwork's in the mail.

"I just got Oklahoma's FEDEX and N.C. State was the first one I ever got. My whole family was happy about that one."

"Florida called and said their offer should be here next week, and Michigan's coach told me today that my offer was on the way."

With N.C. State being the first to offer, they appear to be in good shape early on in Morley's recruitment.

"I like N.C. State because they were the first to offer me, and they recruit my school hard. I've actually talked to Coach Chuck Amato at N.C. State. He's cool... real cool. He already knows my name and everything. He just calls me D-Mo... I like him."

However, it's one of the "Big 3" programs that lead for the talented Miami (Fl.) defender.

"Florida's my favorite school right now," Demetrius said. "The Gators always have young players and play them a lot. I liked them back when Riedel Anthony played there because they were good then."

With a clear favorite and a strong top five, expect Morley to follow the common route of South Florida football prospects and announce his decision late in the recruiting season.

"I'm going to wait and take all my visits," he said. "I want to see what team's out there that I really like the most. What's going to help me make my decision is my family. They are going to help me choose too."
