Georgia Running Back Receives NC State Offer

Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler Running Back Richie Rich is gaining a reputation as one of the South's top prospects and the college scholarship offers have started to pour in.

"Right now I'm just considering the schools that have offered me and they are Maryland, Wake Forest, Duke, UAB, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and NC State," Richie Rich told StateFans. "I'd probably say Maryland and Oklahoma are my favorites right now. Both of them have good programs and the coaches seem cool."

A hugely productive back that rushed for 1,454 yards on 196 carries and 12 touchdowns as a junior, Richie also excels as a defensive back. However, most colleges (including NC State) are recruiting him as a running back and that's the position he prefers. What appeals to him about the Wolfpack?

"I like the way they spread the ball around... just the type of offense they run," he said. "Coach Mazzone is recruiting me for NC State and he's come out to see us."

Rich plans on camping at Georgia and Florida this summer, with other possible destinations still being considered. Given the amount of attention he's receiving, most players would be enjoying the recruiting scene, but Richie hopes to hear from one of his favorite programs.

"I really hopes Miami starts to recruit me," he said. "I like them a lot, but I'm still open to everybody."

Expect a decision from the Georgia star possibly before his senior season, although he would like to take some official visits prior to announcing.

"I probably want to commit before my senior season," he said. "I'll try and take some visits when I can, but if possible I'd like to choose early."

Scouting Report: "Excellent feet, very good at making defenders miss in the open field. Keeps his has excellent quickness and very good patience. He sets up his blocks well, and sets up prospective tacklers even better. Has the quickness and the instincts to make an excellent corner as well." -- Insiders.com Analyst Scott Kennedy
