"[NC State Assistant] Coach Diaz said what took them so long was that all the other coaches had to watch my tape. I told him I was happy about the offer, and I wanted him to know that I had high interest in State."
The two recent offers increases Brown's scholarship list to twelve, as Duke, Tennessee, North Carolina, Penn State, East Carolina, Florida State, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Kansas State had already offered Everette. Although he was unable to list a firm leader, Brown did give StateFans his most recent top five schools.
"I can give you a top five of N.C. State, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and [North] Carolina," he said. "I still have a lot of interest in Tennessee and Penn State, but they are just not in my top five right now. That might change, but that's the top five for now."
Brown starred on both sides of the ball for Beddingfield High last season, finishing with 25 catches and 400 receiving yards at tight end while totaling 110 tackles, 8 sacks, and 2 interceptions on defense. His athleticism has led to most schools offering him the chance to play on either side of the ball. He did mention that N.C. State preferred him to play defense while North Carolina was recruiting him as a tight end/H-Back.
"For the most part it's about even with the teams offering me at tight end or defensive end/outside linebacker," he said. "I'm just trying to decide which one I prefer to play, but at this time I'm not too sure."
N.C. State appears to be in great shape for Brown, and with them offering a scholarship they are now receiving heavy consideration from him.
"Well, I've been on State's campus quiet a few times, and I've been around their team," he said. "I just like the enthusiasm the guys show and it's a winning football program. They seem to have a lot of pride in what they do, and they work hard at it. They have some of the best facilities I've seen... there is just about anything you want in there."
"I know Coach Diaz a little, but not as much as I would like to. He seems to be a down-to-earth guy, and he tells me that they work hard at State. He doesn't let them slack up and that's the type of coach I like."
One team who could be a major factor is North Carolina, as Everette admitted he has always liked the Tar Heels.
"I grew up a UNC fan, and I went to a few of their games this year," he said. "I met the players, and I like the coaches. I like Coach Bunting and the tight ends coach. I know they are struggling, but I saw the spring game and they are looking pretty good this year."
Brown pointed out that as of now distance is not a factor, although in the end he will talk things over with his family prior to making a decision.
"I'm going to try and decide after the season is over so I can take a couple of visits. I'll just go from there and see where I end up."
